Mill Scale
Mill scale, often simply referred to as "scale," is a waste material that forms as a result of the hot rolling process of steel in steel manufacturing companies. It is characterized by its formation on the outer surfaces of plates, sheets, or profiles during the production of these items. Mill scale develops when red-hot iron or steel billets pass through rolling mills, undergoing deformation and high temperatures.

It is the residue formed by high-temperature burning of coal or similar materials.
